1. The parish served by St Albans is a small, compact, residential area, any part of which can be reached on foot, within ten minutes, from the church and vicarage. 2. The population numbers approximately 5000, housed mainly in privately owned properties, with some rented accommodation supplied by voluntary housing associations. 3. There is one G. P. practice; a First and Middle school; several small businesses; a County Fire Station; a good selection of shops and a post office; several public houses; five non-conformist churches and meeting halls. 4. People living in the parish include, residents for many years, and a growing number of young parents moving into first-time-buyer properties. Many of the houses have been modernised to a high standard. 5. Details of the church are as in the leaflet “A Short Guide...” 6. A small, but strong team has developed, with a range of skills available, in pastoral, administrative, and technical matters. 7. Every third Sunday, during the Parish Mass, Divine Healing with the laying on of hands and anointing with Holy Oil, is offered. 8. The main services held during the week are: Sunday Morning Mass at 9.45am, Tuesday evening said Mass at 7pm; and Thursday morning said Mass at 9.45am. 9. The PCC., over the past four years, has embarked on a programme of renewal of the premises, which has resulted in compact, well-decorated community halls, with new heating system, office and counselling room, kitchen and toilet facilities, all meeting provisions laid down by the Local Authority and Social Services Department. IT. equipment, fax, and telephone are all installed. 10. The hall is used extensively, every morning and two afternoons a week, by a thriving Pre-school. There are Rainbows, Brownies, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Sequence Dancers, Aerobics and Line Dancers using the halls in the evenings and on Saturday mornings. |
